Steal books’ ideas!!

Books are really interesting, and you can find a lot of great ideas. Here is a selection of some interesting books, come on, steal some of the ideas!!

KELLY HOPPEN INTERIORS by Kelly Hoppen ( Rizzoli, $24)

The heart of this highly visual and inspirational book is a room-by-room master class, which includes checklists and expert advice for approaching interior design no matter the shape, size, or unique hurdles of a room. A combination of illustrative sketches, mood boards, and evocative photographs illustrates how to turn a concept into reality. Design decisions and dilemmas are covered, from assessing a room, reconfiguring space, and dealing with awkward layouts to planning lighting, choosing materials, and positioning furniture. The book features unique editorial elements and design devices throughout: “inspiration boxes,” specific problems and solutions, and a special feature called “blank canvas transformed,” which shows a sample space designed in several ways highlighting the effect of different styles, moods, and approaches.

UNDECORATE by Christiane Lemieux (Clarkson Potter, &26)

Jettison the old rulebooks about home décor and “undecorate” your space. As the founder and creative director of DwellStudio – which is famous for its brightly colored, graphic textile designs for home furnishings-designer Christiane Lemieux challenges tradition in a quintessentially American way, championing a fresh, unconventional approach to creating a beautiful and comfortable home. Lemieux emboldens readers to push aside stuffy, professionally-designed décor, showing them instead how to infuse their own personality into their home.

PALE & INTERESTING by Atlanta Bartlett & Dave Coote ( Ryland Peters & Small, $18 )

A muted palette of subtle shades and monochrome effects: In the creative and capable hands of Atlanta Bartlett and Dave Coote, what sounds rather bland becomes serene, comfortable and inviting. As the acclaimed interior designers say, it all boils down to keeping it simple: “Edit your possessions and only retain what is useful or beautiful.” The result? A warm, welcoming home that is calm and easy, a joy to live in every single day. As you’ll see in page after page of glorious photographs of airy and light living spaces in Pale & Interesting, there really is no place like home, especially when it’s filled with the things you love: treasured possessions, cozy furniture and soft, beautiful color.

MODERN VINTAGE STYLE by Emily Chalmers ( Ryland Peters & Small, $18 )

In Modern Vintage Style, Emily Chalmers – interiors stylist and owner of hip boutique Caravan – shows how using vintage items in a contemporary context can introduce humour, flair and personality to a home. Decorating should be fun and inspiring, so there are no style diktats; no ‘this-must-go-with-that’. Modern vintage is all about trusting your instincts and taste and using a bit of imagination in seeking out the right items to create a perfect balance of old and new. In the first section of the book, Inspirations, Emily offers up imaginative and varied examples of furniture, lighting, textiles, decorating and collections & display. In the second section, Style, she shows you exactly how to pull the look together, applying her decorating philosophy so you can cook & eat, live, sleep and bathe in tune with Modern Vintage Style.
