Yard Pizzazz

Homeowners spend many hours working in their yards trimming hedges, weeding beds and planting flowers. So now that you have finished the task of lawn maintenance you begin to wonder, “What more could be added to make my yard special?”

A simple answer to that could be lawn ornaments. Lawn decorations are a great way to add an unique element to your yard display. Some ideas for ornamentation may include:

Solar lamps are a great way to decorate any yard. Found in a wide range of shapes and colors these ornaments add great lighting during night lawn parties.

Wind chimes are a hanging feature also found in various shapes, styles and textures that add a special “musical” touch to any lawn during a gentle breeze.

Fountains are a great way to make a yard or garden a relaxing place after a stressful day. Just sit back and enjoy the calming effects of moving water.

Bird Baths and Hummingbird Feeders are great ornamentations that be placed on walkways or within flower beds and supply a cool rest stop for a variation of birds.

No Internet, No phone – Help! An unplanned true vacation

We just returned from a hidden treasure in the North Georgia Mountains. My husband did all the planning searching for a perfect retreat away from all hectic and stress in the mountains. He did an excellent job, a nice cottage directly on the Lake….

.. my biggest surprise however was the discovery that there was no phone or any Internet connection. After a first short panic attack, I fully bought into my destiny of a true family vacation.

No phone, TV, computer… allowed on site

Lake Russel is truly hidden spot and an excellent retreat to recharge batteries….

Confession: We drove every evening to Elberton, the nearest town, and I was allowed for 5-10 minutes to check emails and answer urgent calls….

The addition of a master bedroom, or a master suite, is a growing trend in older homes that need a makeover in living space and amenities. A master addition not only increases square footage and quality of living, but it also adds tremendous value at resale.

Master bedrooms with extra living space and amenities are one of the most desired trends in real estate, so even though this project might be a bigger ticket item, if done correctly, it can add real value to the property.

CURRENT TRENDS

•· Spa-like experience. Nothing takes a master bedroom to a master suite quite like a fabulous bathroom. High-end fixtures and amenities, such as radiant heat flooring, steam shower and free standing tub are just a few of the desirable wish-list items that up the ante on the typical bathroom’s appeal.

•· Masterful closet space. In almost all modern master bedrooms, a walk-in closet is standard. Cramped, over-stuffed closets are a turn-off for potential homebuyers. If you don’t already have one, design a walk-in closet or elongated closet into your master bedroom project.

BIGGEST MISTAKE

When it comes to a master addition, bigger is not always better. The biggest mistake a homeowner can make it is building out of proportion with the rest of the home. Even if the bedroom is decked out with all the best features and amenities, if the rest of the home is smaller concept, the master addition is going to look out of whack and disproportionate. You’ll add more value to your home if the addition looks like it’s always been there.

From a simple modification to a more ambitious makeover, there is a master bedroom plan for every size wallet.

•· On a Budget: If a master addition is what you desire, but adding on extra square footage just isn’t in the budget, consider turning a bonus space, often above the garage, into a more updated and spacious master bedroom. Transform the bonus room by adding architectural elements that make the space more functional. Bring in more light with a skylight or add shelving that mimic built-ins to aid in storage. With more room, a reading nook or office space can easily be accommodated. Being able to designate a larger space to the master bedroom can instantly boost value.

•· Mid-Range: When trying to keep cost from becoming a hassle in your master addition, look to local home improvement and building closeout stores that sell materials for a lot less than retail. Many times, these materials are 50 to 75 percent of what you would normally pay in your larger home improvement stores. Materials range from lighting to flooring, doors to cabinets, which can make a master addition not only a worthy and attractive investment, but can also save you the headache of continually crunching numbers or leaving out a much wanted amenity.

• High-End: The beauty of building out your own master addition is that it allows you the opportunity to develop your own custom plans. Turn your master addition into its own separate living space– a place to go to recharge and relax in privacy. With today’s features and amenities, almost anything is possible. From a sitting area with fireplace to an in-suite bathroom with steam shower and radiant floor heating, turn your master addition into a masterful getaway without leaving your home.

Your master bedroom is your haven. Make it a restful retreat that will soothe and refresh your body and spirit. It is one of those remodeling projects that will bring you many happy returns!

Candles: Tips to Add Style on a Budget

Candles are trendy and are also a terrific staging tool. Why? Because you can create a decorative candle creation for almost any room and season. They come in so many colors, shapes and styles and are adding style while staying on a budget.

1. Color depend on your aspirations and your rooms features: Warmer or cooler vibrations of the various colors will create a different feel to choose one that achieves the effect you desire.

Orange: Brightens a room and brings in joy and enthusiasm

Blue: Calm, cool color that creates feelings of peace, particularly in the bedroom

White: the color of purity, protection and comfort

Green: a harmonizing color allowing for balance and a soothing atmosphere.

2. Be careful with scented candles: When using candles as a decorative item for selling a property, make sure to select one that isn’t scented. Not everyone has the same taste and it can backfire, if a potetnial buyer does not like it.

3. Size and Number: Candle can be an complementary item for your fireplace, or a central item on your dining table. According to the importance you would like to give the arrangement chose a bigger or a smaller size. As for the numbers, we prefer odd-numberes, 1 or 3 or 5 or 7…

4. Shape: Neutral or Crazy?: You have a huge variety of shapes. Keep neutral for big pieces and try to be original for small. Adapt it to the annual events, Flowers for Spring and Summer, Pumpkin for Halloween or even in shapes to remind of the specific Holiday season…

5. Give style to your candles:

Minimalistic: A trio of candles on a plate of stones

Chic: Different glass candle holders grouped together

Relaxing: Place lighted candles in a sitting room

Outdoor feeling: Place your candles as lanterns

Window shopping for new idea’s during my trip in Europe

Every summer we are visiting HOME, that is my treat going back to my roots getting together with family and friends. My parents live in the city and during our 3 week stay I did only drive 4 times. I absolutely love it it and my son loves it too, specifically riding the “Strassenbahn”.

Lot’s of walking and time for some great window shopping. The one thing I do not love about my work is shopping. Luckily I have an Intern right now who loves to do that, so I am on a break… But during vacation time with no specific tasks in mind, that’s what I love to do.

Octupuss Oracle Pauls predictions….

… came true today Germany wins and will be # 3 in this years FIFA Worldcup. What an exciting Game until the last minute. Pau’s predictions for the final Game: Spain….

Of all the 12 soccer matches involving Germany, Paul the Octopus successfully predicted 10 of the final results giving him a 83% success rate. An even hire one for all German Matches 100%. In fact, he was able to predict Germany’s defeat over Spain in the Semi Finals Round and the win of todays game.
