Last year HomeAid Atlanta joined forces with Georgia Power for HomeAid Care Day at House of Dawn in Jonesboro. HomeAid Atlanta provides free-of-charge Care Days to complete maintenance tasks and repairs for nonprofit facilities that serve Atlanta’s homeless population. House of Dawn provides a stable, loving home, life skills programs, and more for expectant and young mothers at risk for homelessness and abuse.
This year HomeAid Atlanta in partnership with Chris Knight of Knight Homes constructed a 4,500 square foot “Second Chance Home” as part of an extended build project for House of Dawn. Design2Sell was brought on to this project to help with decorating the home with furniture and accessories. Using inventory donated by both Lennar Atlanta and our warehouse our Property Stylist, Lisa Sisom, dressed the home for the recent mothers and their children.
“It was a great and challenging day!” Lisa explained after the install. “House of Dawn houses new mothers and their children. Each girl will have her own bedroom and bathroom. The girl's range in age from 13-15 with newborns. What a wonderful place for our inventory!” Using selected inventory from our warehouse and fabulous model home furnishings from Lennar that was stored in a pod next to the house, Lisa mixed and matched the inventory to create a stylish and comfortable home for the families to enjoy. “There were no issues except the VERY large spider in the pod” Lisa joked.
This Second Chance home will provide a beautiful stay for five very young mothers and their children and will include six private bedroom suites, a kitchen, and common areas for educational initiatives, group therapy, and life skills training to empower the young mothers to become independent, self-reliant women.
We are so grateful that we could be a part of this project and thank all the hard work HomeAid Atlanta, Knight Homes and all the volunteers put in to make the House of Dawn Second Chance Home a success.
